Place the Lightbow where its glow flatters a wall or corner, not where it fights the room. Follow five steps to set height, distance, and light for cozy Scandinavian warmth.
Quick answer
Put the Lightbow where you want a soft pool of warm light, not where you need task brightness. Aim it at a nearby wall or corner, keep it slightly below eye level, and leave space around it so the glow reads as accent lighting rather than a spotlight.
Why the Lightbow suits accent lighting rather than task work
The Lightbow is a sculptural fixture, so its job is atmosphere: it draws the eye and warms a surface. Treat it as a layer above practical lighting, not a replacement for a reading lamp or ceiling light.
That means placement is about what the light touches. A wall, a curtain edge, or a quiet corner gives the glow something to land on; aiming it into open floor wastes the effect.
The trade-off: warmth versus glare
Warm light feels cozy, but a visible bulb or a too-close wall can create a hot spot. If you can see the light source directly from your usual seat, move the lamp or turn it slightly away.
In small rooms, keep more distance between the lamp and the wall so the pool of light spreads instead of concentrating.
When a single Lightbow is enough
One fixture works well in a hallway, beside a sofa, or on a shelf where it can glow against a backdrop. In larger rooms, pair it with other warm sources at different heights rather than adding a second identical lamp nearby.
If the room already has strong overhead light, the Lightbow will read as decoration first; dim the overhead light in the evening to let the accent layer show.
Five steps to place the Lightbow for warm accent light
- Choose the surface the light will wash: Pick a wall, curtain, or corner with a matte finish and some texture, then position the Lightbow so its glow lands there. Avoid glossy surfaces that bounce a hard reflection. Check the surface from your main seating position before committing to the spot.
- Set the height just below eye level: Place the lamp so the light source sits slightly below your standing or seated eye line. This keeps the glow soft and reduces direct glare. Sit in your usual chair and look toward the lamp; if you see the source, lower it or angle it away.
- Leave breathing room from the wall: Keep a gap between the fixture and the wall so the light spreads into a pool rather than a tight hot spot. In small rooms, increase the gap slightly. Step back across the room; the edge of the light pool should fade gradually, not stop abruptly.
- Hide the cord along a natural line: Route the cable down a corner, behind furniture, or along a skirting board. The Lightbow is a visual object, so a loose cord breaks the calm. Check the cord from the doorway, the angle guests see first.
- Layer it with softer ambient light: Dim or switch off overhead lights in the evening and let the Lightbow carry the warm accent. Add one other low, warm source across the room to balance it. If the room feels flat, move the second source farther away rather than making the Lightbow brighter.
Product facts
- Lightbow: This is a spare LED electrical part for the Lightbow from Design House Stockholm, offered as a replacement for the older individual incandescent light sources. If your Lightbow uses the older incandescent sources, this part lets you keep the same fixture and update its light source instead of replacing the lamp.
